Adjusting to Change
Receiving a diagnosis of dementia can be an overwhelming experience. The Adjusting to Change program is designed for people who have recently been diagnosed with dementia, as well as their primary carer.
The Adjusting to Change Program provides relevant information, emotional support and practical assistance for people in the early stage of dementia and their support person (family member or friend).
The program provides information to assist you at a time of receiving a diagnosis and what this means for you and your family including:
- Symptoms and diagnosis
- Practical strategies
- Communication
- Relationships with family and friends
- Planning for the future
- Staying positive
- Community services
Join the program to:
- Meet and share experiences with others who are in a similar situation
- Discuss different coping strategies
- Maintain and enhance skills and abilities
- Consider future options
- Express feelings and emotions in a safe, small group environment
- Feel valued and accepted
Cost
The Adjusting to Change program is free to attend for people who are funded under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP).
Eligibility
This program is available for people who are 65 years or older, living in the community and are CHSP eligible. To be eligible to join the program, the person attending (or their loved one) must have a diagnosis of dementia or be in the process of obtaining a diagnosis. The person must be aware of the changes they are experiencing, and it must be their wish to join.
